The girl participants created impressive drawings in their journals of their favorite “payne” printed fabric so popular in this culture as well as across the African continent. We discovered when they shared their drawings that each one had a story, tied to events and people in their lives. This exercise helps beginners in drawing distinguish different types of lines and shapes (straight, curved, points, circles) that one can use to create things. Our artist assistant Salima Sudi demonstrates the different types of lines and shapes for the participants in the photo above.
